The negative effects of homeschooling on socialization
The Homeschooling is an ideal choice for many as the trends speak about this system. In the recent times, most of the people are impressed with the advantages that a homeschooling system provides over the traditional school system. It is always good to judge about anything in this world by weighing the supporting factors and limiting facts on a proper balance. The same needs to be followed when it comes for anyone to choose amongst the two choices they have: to send a child to the schools i.e. public education system or to educate their child at home itself. Though there are research studies that stay in favor of homeschooling, saying that the kid who was homeschooled performed equivalently or much better than their counterparts in the academics, yet there are downsides that could move under the shade.
The general negatives of homeschooling
- Since the duty of teaching is pulled off from a teacher in the profession at a school, it will be a responsibility of the parent to commit a solid amount of time. Thus the first drawback that paves in the way of criticizing a homeschooling system is its time-consuming nature.
- Patience is one sad thing that most parents will lack. To educate a child by self, patience plays the act of a pillar for the child to move in the right progress. Thus this would be the burden on the parents and it is a killer act if either or both of the parents are working professionals.
- Education anywhere would demand a lot of concentration from the seeker side and since in the childhood, to uphold an interest in learning, some sort of motivation has to be constantly injected. Few students get compelled well only if they feel there is a competition to them. Thus, again it is the parent who has to make sure the child stays motivated and on the go with the case of homeschooling.
- In a typical public or private school, cases where practicals on the subject are in demand for learning, the child may stay behind in having a proper knowledge on them as every requirement that will usually be addressed in a school can’t be replicated in the home.
The absence of right socialization
The biggest and most sensible concern that many have with homeschooling is it leaves the child with not much of the knowledge about or experience on social skills. In a home environment, since they would be facing the parents or a tutor who is elder than them, it would be difficult for a child to get the interaction opportunity with the kids of his/her age. However hard, there might be a practice, by sending the child to a grocery, or letting him/her play with kids in the neighborhood, a school is entirely a different atmosphere which is capable of providing the values of being in a unit despite the larger diversity. These are the main examples of how the child may be affected negatively by a socialization account due to homeschooling.
