Homeschooling Could Impact Public Education
In a survey that was conducted in the continent of America, it was reported that there were around 1.2 million students who were getting educated through homeschooling system. This number stood comparatively much larger than the total number of students who were attending the New York city’s public education system. This is a clear indication of the fact that many of the parents in America are very much inclined to the Homeschooling system when there is a choice between the Homeschooling and Public education system. The system of Homeschooling is not something new for today’s generation, rather it was the choice taken by the elite families when looked into the history.
What is homeschooling?
Homeschooling is a form of education in which the student would learn subjects being at the home and will usually be taught by his/her parents or there could be a tutor hired. In North America, it is known as Homeschooling while in Europe it is termed as Home education.
Why opt to homeschool?
There can be numerous reasons why families choose homeschooling system as a mode of education rather than sending it to a traditional schooling system. One of the biggest factors that drive parents towards the homeschooling choice is the experience that many parents have had with their own personal life or based on the incidents that could have happened to other people. The reasons include incidents such as school fee are too high or there wasn’t a proper response from the school when approached for a query or the management did not behave properly. Another factor could be due to the tradition that has been practiced in the family and according to its value, sending a child to a school could be seen as a low esteemed work.
Effects of homeschooling on Public Education
This system urges the parents to take the role of a teacher although there could be a possibility of few families opting to hire a tutor. Since a tutor can’t stay all along the day, it becomes the responsibility of a parent to contribute in nurturing the child’s abilities. Thus, it is evident that there is a scope for more number of teachers to emerge as a result of homeschooling system, although the new teachers would lack a proper certification to be a professional teacher. Since homeschooling doesn’t mandate the parents alone to be teachers, in few homes, there remains a dearth of a private tutor. This gives an opportunity for other people to become an informal teacher and hence a new route for income earning. In contrast to the traditional public education system, the kid is provided with more attention which could benefit them by helping the child to perform high in academics. This will certainly fuel the other families to take into consideration about the homeschooling education. Hence, there is a possibility that the public education system might witness a further decline in number in the upcoming years.
